The Great Washington Shake Out, an annual moment where people and businesses are encouraged to hold earthquake drills, is this Thursday, October 15th at 10:15 am.

Every year millions get together across the globe to hold the drills.

Earthquake Program Coordinator Brian Terbush said earthquake preparation is especially important in places where one could happen at any time, like Washington State. With so many folks working in unconventional ways in 2020, the Washington State Emergency Management Division said it's important to "Secure Your Space".

"So the idea is, we are not sure where you are this year. You might be at work, you might be at home. It's a little unusual." explained Terbush, "But we want people to make sure wherever they're spending a lot time, it's earthquake safe. So look around where you are right now. Is there something that could fall?"

Residents are also encouraged to keep two weeks worth supplies in case of a disaster. That's one gallon of water per person per day, and also things like warm clothes, a flashlight, spare batteries, a space blanket, and non-perishable food.
