12th District Representative Keith Goehner was honored by the Association of Washington Cities with the "City Champion Award" recently.

The Dryden resident said it was a surprise.

"I did go to the legislature with the idea that we want to make sure that people were understanding of how important local government is in carrying out the functions of government. Evidently I did that successfully to be acknowledged as I was."

He also noted that he shares with Gerry Pollet saying there's a disconnect between the state legislature and the local government and he wants to represent the cities and counties in Olympia.

12th District Senator Brad Hawkins was named the recipient of the "Legislative Champion" Award from the Washington PUD Association this week. He said he is super excited to be honored in this way.

"I hold the PUDs in very high regard. They're premier agencies, great stewards of public resources, great employers and to be a champion for our PUDs is to be a champion for the people."

Hawkins says he's pleased with the work he did with state PUDs on legislation that was passed in the most recent session in Olympia.
