Wenatchee School District school board studied and discussed an infographic at Tuesday's board meeting that provided insight on lack of student participation in remote learning. According to Superintendent Paul Gordon, the infographic represented 100% of the 20% of students that haven't engaged or connected with the new learning transition.

"That connection is turning in work, showing up to open office hours or emailing us information that we need," said Gordon.

Students choosing not to participate as the reason behind non engagement is carrying the biggest percentage of the subset of nonparticipating students. Roughly 34% of the 20% of the non engaging students are not participating because they opt not to.

"That was a hard one for us to hear," said Gordon. "Then we've got 24% we can't get in contact with, we've called, we emailed. I mean it's multiple calls. It's not just one call, it's multiple calls being made with no response."

Lack of interest was the reason behind 13% of students non engagement, parents opting not to participate is at 8%, unclear expectations was 6.5%, no home internet was 5.2% and no device was 4.4%.

"Little surprising, 4.4 no device. That they don't have the laptop to do the work. And in those conversations, we are saying we will provide it to you. So, trying to attack those problems," said Gordon.

The infographic revealed that 3.5% of students reengaged after being contacted. This will cause the 20% of the nonparticipating students within the Wenatchee School District population to be bumped down to 16.5%.

The 20% of the student population totals to roughly 600 students.
