Washington is last in the country in commissioned law enforcement officers per thousand people according to data released by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, or WASPC.

The organization's annual report says the number of murders in the state was up nearly 47% and manslaughter doubled in 2020 while drug and hate crimes were down.

WASPC says assaults of officers is up 67% since 2016.
