A Level 1 evacuation notice has been issued from Woodstone to Van Sickle and Rock Island Road to Batterman Road-north of the city of Rock Island.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, a wind-aided brush fire, now called the Webb Place Fire, is at least 15 acres and challenging firefighters in the Rock Island area.

Douglas County Fire District 2 and Chelan County Fire District 1 PIO Kay McKeller said the fire is believed to have begun around 6:00 pm Monday evening near 8th Street Southeast and Wells Street.

DCFD2 and CCFD1 initially responded to the brush fire. They went to second alarm just before 7:00 pm to bring in other local resources. Douglas County Fire District 4, Chelan County Fire District 6 and Cashmere Fire Department all responded.

"Right now their big thing is keeping the people safe down there." McKeller said, "Getting in and getting after any fire that is jumping up at them. Also making sure that our stations are staffed with people to go out on any other responses to the public."

There have been reports of smaller fires cropping up due to embers riding the high winds. Emergency services and other resources have also been responding to many calls related to the high winds being experienced.
