A Wenatchee man is in custody after assaulting an individual with a baseball bat last week.

Sgt. Nathan Hahn said officers responded to a house on the 500 block of Sunset Avenue in Wenatchee and quickly called for an ambulance.

"(Officers) located a male who was identified as Andrew Vargas. He was bleeding heavily from some injuries he sustained." Hahn explained, "He indicated that he had just left a residence in the 500 block of Sunset and he was essentially jumped by a male who had a bat."

The suspect reportedly took off after the assault.

"Just a short time later, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office responded to a suicidal individual on Marker Avenue in the 1700 block." Hahn continued, "They were able to determine that subject was involved in this case. He was eventually taken into custody for the assault."

Deputies took 35-year-old Jess Cunning to the hospital as a precaution. Eventually he was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on assault 1st degree, malicious mischief 1st degree and malicious mischief 3rd degree.
