Senator Cantwell announced Wednesday morning that Wenatchee will receive $520,600 in funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The money will be applied to Lincoln Park renovations which is a $1.5 million project. The renovations include a new playground, outdoor amphitheater and a new BMX track among other features.

The city of Wenatchee had applied for this grant in 2018.

"We actually ranked high enough to receive funding and we haven't received our contracts yet but it looks that's going to be moving forward," said David Erickson, Parks and Recreation director.

The city has already received $500,000 in funding from Washington Wildlife and Recreation for the Lincoln Park project and are awaiting one more grant contract for the project.

"This will be a nice first step to getting that project off the ground," said Erickson. "The schedule for that is once we get all the grant contracts in hand, then we would move forward with final engineering next year and construction following up in 2021."

LWCF has supported more than 600 projects in the state including Lake Chelan.
