Wenatchee Schools now have an interim superintendent after its board voted to accept a contract that'll bring in former Wenatchee teacher Bill Eagle.

The contract is with the support group North Central Educational Services District, which is Eagle's employer.

Dr. Michelle Price, who heads the Service District, says the arrangement is being driven by timing.

"The primary reason we offered to provide this option to the Wenatchee School District is that it was late in the hiring season for superintendents," said Price. "The superintendent job seekers at this time have a lack of depth of experience with large districts."

The agreement means Eagle will serve as Wenatchee School District Superintendent for one year, while a search is made to find a permanent replacement for Paul Gordon.

Price said Eagle is not interested in the permanent position and would not be a long-term option, although he is a former classroom teacher and principal at the district's Columbia Elementary School.

North Central Educational Services District has provided superintendent services to other districts in the region, although Wenatchee will be the largest district it has supported.

The group has provided such services to the Stehekin, Palisades an Orondo districts.

Outgoing Wenatchee Superintendent Gordon is leaving on June 30. Eagle will take over the next day and serve until June 30, 2023.
