Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month is from September 16 through October 16 and Wenatchee Valley College is highlighting heritage month with several events. The WVC library has stood up a book display featuring Hispanic/Latinx authors for the month.

"We should celebrate and learn other cultures and bring awareness to some issues concerning not just our community, but the nation," said Marichuy Alvízar, diversity and equity coordinator.

The community is invited to learn and play the popular board game, Lotería, on October 5 from 12-2 p.m. in the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Center. The event also has a Zoom option as well for those that would like to participate online.

"This Friday (October 8), we have Maria Hinojosa. She is a news anchor, nominated award journalist ," said Alvízar. "She is the anchor and producer of Latino USA, which is national public radio, and she focuses a lot on Latino issues."

Hinojosa will conduct a virtual presentation, starting at 1 p.m. Friday. The presentation can be viewed here.

WVC will host a screening of the film, 'Stolen Education', Thursday, October 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Van Tassell Center. The film documents the untold story of Mexican-American children in the 1950s that faced discrimination in Texas schools.
