Wenatchee Valley College is holding its Arbor Day Celebration Friday at 10:00 am on the WVC campus in Wenatchee.

While Arbor Day is normally in late April (it was April 30th this year), WVC staff decided to hold their Arbor Day celebration in October. The reason being that the college benefits from being an Arbor Day Foundation Tree Campus and must hold at least one arbor celebration per year. Since WVC organizers prefer to hold Earth Day and other celebrations and events during the last weeks of April, the required Arbor Day celebration was moved to later in the year.

Sustainability Coordinator Joan Qazi said participants will plant 20 native trees on campus. There will also be refreshments courtesy of Sustainable Wenatchee, poetry from creative writing students, and a tour of on-campus trees by a botany professor.

"Please bring your gloves." explained Qazi, "It promises right now to be a little bit rainy. Good planting weather, but that means you probably want to wear your raincoat."

The event is free and open to the public. Those interested will want to meet at the west end of the 9th Street parking lot by the softball field. Organizers hope to have a tent put up in the area.

Everyone attending the event must be masked at all times, practice social distancing and complete an attestation form.
