Wild Bring Down Eagles in Overtime Thriller

With the largest home crowd of the year on hand for “Military Appreciation Night”, the Wenatchee Wild sent 3,295 fans home happy with a thrilling 4-3 overtime win over the Surrey Eagles on Saturday night at Town Toyota Center.

Wenatchee opened the scoring in the first period on a Brett Chorske goal from the slot set up by Tuli Eisenbeis who was playing in his first Wild game as an affiliate player rostered with the U18 Wenatchee Wolves development team. Surrey tied the game in the second period when former Wild forward Cristophe Tellier tucked a low shot around goalie Noah Altman, then took a 2-1 lead when Brendan Kim poked home a loose rebound in the crease just over two minutes later. Sam Morton tied it back up for the Wild after creating a turnover with a tenacious forecheck and slipping a low shot through the Eagle goalie’s pads. The game remained tied at 2-2 at the second intermission.

Determined to have a good showing against his former team, Tellier reclaimed the lead for his club by wiring a shot from the left circle over the glove hand of Altman at 6:39 of the third period. However, the Wild drew even again as Sam Morton blasted a one-timer from the slot, completing a crisp pass from Brian Adams below the goal line. Both teams had Grade A chances but stellar goaltending and persistent goalposts helped send this game into sudden death overtime.

It was in the three-on-three extra session that Wenatchee sealed the win. Brian Adams looped around behind the Eagles net and moved the puck up top to Dylan Herzog. From there, Herzog zipped it into the right circle where Nick Cafarelli took it, picked a spot and ripped it home sending the fans leaping from their seats as he saluted the flag in celebration.

Wenatchee (22-19-4) concludes their homestand Friday and Saturday against the Trail Smoke Eaters (29-14-4). The games will be broadcast and streamed online with NewsRadio 560 KPQ, with the Pregame Shows airing at 6:45 pm.
