Two bills were passed by the state House designed to help in preventing and recovering from wildfires. One bill, sponsored by Jacquelin Maycumber of Republic would allow the state Department of Natural Resources to provide funds for communication equipment, education and outreach, technical assistance among other things to help with wildfire prevention. Another bill, sponsored by Joel Kretz of Wauconda, would help make forests more resilient and try to mitigate future wildfires and the damage they can cause. The bill would require DNR to implement forest health policies. Both bills passed unanimously and are now under consideration by the Senate.
