Washington State University Extension Forestry and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources are rolling out a series of free, online webinars with a focus on forestry. The courses kick off July 29 with each webinar offered twice, noon to 1 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.

WSU Extension and DNR's successful virtual courses in 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, prompted the return of remote learning.

"DNR and Washington State University Extension Forestry learned during the COVID outbreak was that remote learning offered an opportunity to reach people who had never before been able to participate in extension programming," said Kenny Ocker, communications. "We've been able to pick up these technical skills and quickly transform into ways to keep these interactive and informative classes in front of people even if you can't necessarily gather in the same location."

The upcoming virtual courses will mirror the same model used for the 2020 remote learning options. The online courses are for all skills levels and include instruction from experienced forest managers.

"This year's summer classes will cover wildlife habitat creation on your own lands," said Ocker. "There's a couple different classes on how to control noxious weeds."
