The Waypoint Foundation, an Ephrata based nonprofit with a focus on youth, is bringing back its annual Scholastic Chess Tournament after its COVID related hiatus. The tournament is open to all Grant County K-12 students, including homeschooled youth, and will be on February 5 at Parkway School.

"It provides kids another opportunity that's a little different than sports and main focuses of activities for kids in the community," said Troy Pugh, Waypoint Foundation trustee. "Everybody that participates, not only are they able to play chess throughout the day, they all walk home with something."

The tournament has no registration fee and lunch as well as cash prizes are provided for all participants with the winner pocketing $500.
