Brewster Middle School Science Teacher Jackie Hentges was named the Regional Teacher of the Year by the North Central Educational Service District.

School Principal Greg Austin says Hentges has been at the school for 25 years and that by itself is impressive and worthy of respect.

"She is so devoted to the profession of teaching. She is a student day in and day out herself, continuing to learn and getting better at what she does. She's a great collaborator."

Seven years ago the Middle School broke off from the High School.

Austin says they've done a great job building they're climate and turning the school around and that Hentges is a big part of that.

"She's very knowledgeable in what she does and is always thinking about not just what is best for her, but what is best for the kids and her peers."

All nine Washington State ESDs select a regional Teacher of the Year, who go on to compete for state honors.

The most recent teacher from the NCESD to be named State Teacher of the Year was Camille Jones from Quincy in 2017.
