Central Washington University students can look forward to a new $60 million, 80,000 square foot Health Sciences facility. The university celebrated with a groundbreaking for the facility Tuesday morning.

"Our Health Science faculty is vital in preparing the next generation of healthcare leaders to take on this enormous challenge," said Jim Gaudino, CWU president.

The facility will have classrooms and lap spaces that will have capacity of 630 students on the healthcare track along with faculty. The Exercise Science, Clinical Physiology, Nutrition, Paramedicine and Public Health programs will be consolidated to one location in the facility versus scattered across campus.

"These laboratory experiences and the spaces that are in this new building will allow for students to experience and really understand the type of care they're going to be providing through the people that they serve," said Ethan Bergman, Health Sciences Department chair.

The building is scheduled to be opened by January 2022.
