Central Washington University is expecting to have full, in-person instruction for at least most classes beginning in the fall. That was the projection by outgoing President James Gaudino credited the students, faculty and staff.

"Our incidence rate of COVID infections is remarkably low, so congratulations to all the people who were involved in planning and to all the people who lived through those plans and followed the rules; wore their masks and washed their hands, social distancing. It's really been great."

During the hour-long event, Gaudino also indicated that the university anticipates having enough vaccine doses next fall for all university students, faculty, and staff.

There could still be face masking requirements, but they will work with health officials as they hope to have kids on campus.

"In all likelihood our county will be in Phase 4 by the time we reopen the university which means we'll be looking at 75% capacity in restaurants, theatres will be open, distancing rules will be down to three feet. That's going to feel a lot more traditional than we have been able to let people feel thus far."

Getting vaccinated will not be required for anyone stepping onto campus, but strongly encouraged.

The university also announced today that it will not host any camps or conferences this summer.
