The Senate voted to pass the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement, better known as the USMCA, Thursday.

Washington Senator Maria Cantwell voted in favor of the deal noting Washington is one of the most trade dependent states in the country.

"What we’re doing here, for the first time that I know of, is business and labor coming together and saying ‘we need to build the capacity within a country so that they can enforce trade agreements.’ This is a positive step, not just for Mexico, but a positive step for what we need to do around the globe."

Cantwell was one of 89 that voted in favor of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement, better known as the USMCA Thursday.

She says this will open up new markets for Washingtonians.

"Let's be a world leader in establishing the rules for fair trade and pushing for provisions like we see in the Mexico agreement so we can move forward in making sure Washington products, U.S. products, American-made products, get delivered to a growing, wealthier world."

10 Senators voted against the bill; eight Democrats, one Republican and one independent.

The bill now goes to President Trump's desk for his signature.
