A Quincy Middle School student is facing charges after threatening to harm another student on Snapchat Tuesday night and bringing weapons to school Wednesday morning.

After staff were alerted to the posts, a male student in the 8th grade was taken out of class around 8:15 am. He was detained in the school's office while the police were called.

Captain Ryan Green said staff recovered a small knife and an airsoft pistol from the child's backpack. Although the 8th grader did not have a CO2 cartridge to power the airsoft gun, just possessing one on school grounds is still illegal.

The student had also reportedly brought a knife to school in the past.

"We reached out to (the Grant County Juvenile Detention Facility) and they declined to take the juvenile into custody." explained Green, "So a report will be filed with the Grant County Prosecutor's Office recommending charges."

Police are recommending he be charged with unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds.

The student has been emergency expelled by Quincy Middle School. The school was never under any lockdown Wednesday.
