Quincy Middle School was put into lockdown Wednesday after racist threats were made on both the district's Instagram account as well as the personal account of a middle school staff member.

Quincy Police Captain Ryan Green said the threats were posted just after 1:00 pm and referenced a school shooting. The middle school went into lockdown out of what is being called 'an abundance of caution' and law enforcement was immediately notified.

"Right now we have extra patrols in the area." stated Green, "We are working with our investigators to determine where that social media comment came from and the liability of the threat."

Instagram is aiding investigators in their search.

Students in the middle school were dismissed under police escort around 3:15 pm.
