A 77-year-old Wenatchee man died while hiking in Southern Oregon Tuesday.

The Josephine County Sheriff's Office says Ernest Bolz was hiking with a companion when they sent an emergency message via a satellite tracker saying Bolz had fallen and was unconscious while on the Rogue River Trail.

A Coast Guard helicopter responded locating and then extracting Bolz.

He was declared when they arrived at the airport.

Sheriff's Deputies are attempting to contact Bolz's hiking companion as the investigation is ongoing.
