An Okanogan County Fire District 3 firefighter was burned while battling the Spring Coulee Fire, which began on Sunday.

Assistant Chief Christian Johnson suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 50-60 percent of his body and is currently in Harborview Medical center in a medically-induced coma. At last report, he was being stabilized for skin graft surgery.

The fire began around 4:00 p.m. Sunday just off B & O Road North between Fletcher Loop Road and Spring Coulee Road and was up to nearly 150 acres before it was contained at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
